My Therapeutic Approach and Style
My name is Vincia Mitchell-Simonian, and I am a Licensed Master Social Worker with experience in providing counseling services to survivors of domestic violence and special instruction/ABA services to children with autism. I work primarily with adults, families, and couples to address issues that limit self-growth and create unhelpful relationships.
I used a trauma-informed, strengths-based, and person-centered approach to therapy. By using a trauma-informed approach, I create a welcoming space built on trust, safety, and empowerment. Although a traumatic experience can change your perception of self, the trauma does not have to define you. Through collaboration, empowerment, and goal setting, I can help you to recognize your core strengths and incorporate them in your lifestyle. Also, you will be treated as the expert when discussing your experiences, and we will use your perspective and insight to develop an effective treatment plan.
During the first session, the issue or problem that influenced your decision to seek therapy will be examined. You will be reminded that this is a therapeutic environment driven by compassion and empathy, and that this is a safe space for you to share your concerns without fear of being judged. Your readiness and commitment to change will be assessed to determine the level of support needed to help you achieve your goals or find your purpose in life. Your success in therapy requires a collaborative effort and willingness to try new approaches. You will leave the session with clarity and a better understanding of the issue that has impacted your life.
